Like so many artists before them, British synth pop duo Pet Shop Boys get into the yuletide spirit and release 'Christmas' just in time for the holidays.

Christmas music never sounded so…electronic. But on December 14, the Pet Shop Boys add their spin to the new Christmas tradition of releasing a holiday album with their 5 track EP.

Since the release of their debut single “West End Girls” way back in the early 1980’s The Pet Shop Boys (Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe) have been crafting edgy synth pop that has expanded the boundaries of disposable dance pop.

By constantly evolving and exploring new sounds from Miami Freestyle in the late 80’s to Hi-NRG trance influences in the 90’s, and acoustic guitar at the beginning of this decade, Pet Shop Boys have crafted some of the best dance music for the last three decades.

Although this is their first foray into holiday-themed music, the Pet Shop Boys did have a coveted British Christmas number one back in 1988 when their cover of “Always On My Mind” clocked in at the top ahead of reoccurring holiday hit “Fairytale Of New York” by The Pogues.

Splicing new tracks with covers and remixes, the five tracks on Christmas include the newly recorded “It Doesn't Often Snow At Christmas”, a cover of the Motown classic “My Girl” in a straight forward version as well as “My Girl (Our House Mix)” which mixes the old Madness track in for some holiday fun.

Christmas will also include “All Over The World”, one of the best tracks from their recent set Yes, as well as a mash up of Coldplay’s massive number one single “Viva La Vida” with their own track “Domino Dancing” from 1988’s Introspective.

Pet Shop Boys Party

The Pet Shop Boys have been touring extensively in support of their latest release Yes. In celebration of the Brazilian portion of their successful Pandemonium tour, they release Party.

Available exclusively in Brazil or from their website, Party focuses on songs that have featured or currently feature in some popular Brazilian TV Globo soap operas.

The compilation album collects some of the highlights from Yes such as “Love Etc.” and sits them side by side previous hits such as “It’s a Sin”, “West End Girls” and “Always On My Mind” for a collection of some of their greatest hits on a single disc.

Christmas and Party make the second and third releases this year for the Pet Shop Boys who earlier in 2009 dropped their tenth studio recording Yes. The Pet Shop Boys were also honored with an award for Outstanding Contribution to Music at this year’s Brit Awards.

Both albums available from the Pet Shop Boy’s official website.
