December 2009's playlist of new dance songs features tracks from Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Madonna, The Killers, The Pet Shop Boys, Moby and Timbaland.

In December, dance music’s new queen Lady Gaga teams up with R&B diva Beyoncé for two singles, “ Telephone ” and “Video Phone”, included on expanded re-release versions of each singer’s respective album.

The Lady Gaga-dominated track “Telephone” dials up 80’s drum patterns and cute lyrics while the Beyoncé-lead “Video Phone” plays like an x-tube delight – three minutes of fun and then all’s forgotten. Neither star needed the other to push their record sales. And as odd as it seems on the surface, their team ups sound great and drive dance into all kinds of new directions.

New Christmas Song from The Killers

The Killers wish the world a Mariachi Christmas on their new Christmas single “¡Happy Birthday Guadalupe!”, featuring Wild Light & Mariachi El Bronx. Unlike other artists who release full-length Christmas albums this year, The Killers continue to drop their Christmas album one single, and one year at a time.

The tradition began back in 2006 with “A Great Big Sled”. Last year’s offering “Joseph, Better You Than Me” featured Elton John & Pet Shop Boy Neil Tennant.

This year’s Killers Christmas track finds the boys from Las Vegas south of the border jamming with a Mariachi band. A bizarre Christmas track and a dance record of a different sort but a fun time nonetheless.

New Dance Songs from Madonna, Shakira, Christmas Songs from Pet Shop Boys

Regarding Christmas singles, The Pet Shops Boys gift-wrap a new yuletide single “It Doesn't Often Snow At Christmas”. Due December 15, it’s included on their forthcoming five-song Christmas EP.

On the same day, Madonna releases “Revolver” a red hot second new single from her latest greatest hits collection Celebration. The track features a smoking Madonna singing about sex, but using a gun this time as thinly veiled imagery.

Madonna gets buried somewhat in the thumping backing track and it also features a useless cameo rap by Lil' Wayne but she proves once again that even at 50+ the gal can still fire off a hit. “Revolver” will also be released as a “One Love Remix” featuring David Guetta.

Lil' Wayne must have had a few Saturdays off and some time to kill since he also features on Shakira’s new track “Give It Up To Me”. An unimpressive second single from her otherwise excellent album She Wolf finds the Colombian shaking her hips to an R&B/ dance groove.

Mariah Carey’s new single “I Want To Know What Love Is” doesn’t feature Lil’ Wayne, but for all the attention it’s been getting, maybe it should. This cover of Foreigner’s 1984 signature hit needed to be covered as badly as “We Are the World” and finds Mimi slipping in the popularity poles once again.

Skip the original ballad version but check out the Big Kid in SF-Shangrila Tribal Edit which all but strips Mariah from the track and leaves a sweat drenched club jam in her place.

New Dance Techno Songs by Timbaland, Natalie Imbruglia and Moby

Timbaland returns in December with his Shock Value 2 album featuring the club ready “Morning After Dark”, a spooky dance grind featuring Nelly Furtado & newcomer SoShy.

“Torn” star Natalie Imbruglia returns from a bad romance long enough to kick her man to the curb on “Want”. Co-written by Imbruglia, Kat Kourtney and Coldplay’s Chris Martin she’s torn no more on this wish-you-well breakup song. The dance /pop track marks a return to form for the Australian star who hasn’t seen much of the spotlight of late.

Also releasing new dance music in December 2009, techno wizard turned down tempo instrumentalist Moby remixes “Mistake” a track from his underappreciated Wait For Me album, Muse reinvent pop with their electro charged “Undisclosed Desires”, Calvin Harris has a house “Flashback”, and Depeche Mode squeeze the last bit of juice from their Sounds of the Universe album with single “Perfect”.
